Fife Law Centre was established in 2009, as the product of a vision of local agencies and providers who saw a need for accessible and specialist legal services for clients served by the third sector in Fife. Their focus is on providing preventative legal assistance at an early stage, working in collaboration with agencies to provide a holistic advice and support service across Fife.

Their objective is to promote and improve access to justice and to relieve poverty for those who face a financial barrier to legal services and face difficulties accessing legal aid or legal representation. They do this by providing advice, assistance, and representation on matters such as housing, debt, benefit tribunals, welfare law and supporting victims of violent crime and domestic abuse.

Fife Law Centre operate as a Board which sustains and supports a private legal firm, Fife Community Law Ltd, which is regulated by the Law Society of Scotland.

The Role of Trustee:

As a board member, you will play a crucial role in setting the strategic direction of, and securing resources for, Fife Law Centre and working with the Principal Solicitor to support the delivery of services. The Board does not itself offer any legal advice to the public and operates solely on a supervisory level.

Candidates with experience in management or oversight of third sector organisations, financial management and fundraising within the third sector, are of particular interest, as are those who are engaged with or working in third sector organisations in Fife. We welcome applications from those with a background from various organisations, or those with experience using services provided by third sector organisations.

Previous board experience is not essential, all board members must support the main objectives of the Law Centre.

Board meetings are held 5/6 times per year.
